About Sandy Lerner
Sandy Lerner Biography
Sandra "Sandy" Lerner co-founded Cisco Systems. She started Urban Decay cosmetics after quitting Cisco and supports animal rights. California State University, Chico, awarded Lerner a political science bachelor's degree in 1975. She then earned master's degrees in statistics and computer science from Stanford University in 1981 and econometrics from the Claremont Graduate School in 1977. She co-founded Cisco Systems in 1984 while serving as the director of computer facilities at the Stanford University Graduate School of Management. Len Bosack, who was then her boyfriend, is now her ex-husband. In 1988, Lerner and Bosack appointed John Morgridge as Cisco's third CEO. When Lerner was let go on August 28, 1990, Bosack resigned to demonstrate his support for her. The two retired from Cisco after selling all of their founder's shares. A portion of Sandy's stock earnings were invested in the "& Capital Partners" venture capital limited partnership, which was just getting started. Urban Decay Cosmetics, a brand-new cosmetics firm with the slogan "does pink make you puke?" was one of the projects that received funding. The cosmetics line doesn't use any animals. The company was bought by Moet-Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), a French corporation specializing in luxury products, in February 2000. In December 2002, LVMH split it out. Nowadays, Lerner is active in a variety of high-tech and charitable endeavors. To turn Edward Austen Knight's manor house, Chawton House, into a center for studying English women's writing, she contributed funds through the foundation she co-owns with Leonard Bosack in 1992. She relocated to Virginia and acquired Ayrshire Farm, a 1912 estate with 42 rooms designed in the Edwardian style. Ayrshire Farm aims to farm responsibly and profitably while educating consumers, the local community, and young people about the advantages of locally produced, humanely treated meats and organic crops. The farm markets its goods both locally and online. Using the pen name Ava Farmer (for a Virginia farmer), she released the sequel to Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" in November 2011 under the title "Second Impressions," with ambitions to adapt it into a motion picture. The 2011 debut of the documentary "Something Ventured" included a scene with Lerner. Washington and Jefferson College, Goucher College, University of Southampton in the UK, and Shenandoah University all awarded honorary doctorates to Lerner.
