He excelled as an athlete and enjoyed a distinguished career as a collegiate quarterback at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Middle Tennessee State University. Hunt was talented enough to briefly join as a free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs, but his interest in music grew. He had grown up listening to and loving 1990s country music, and after hearing rap, R&B, and other urban pop genres in college locker rooms, he created a singing and songwriting style that subtly blended them all.
