About Maurice Lynn Watkins
Maurice Lynn Watkins Biography
Maurice Termite Watkins was a sucker for a good brawl. He knew what he wanted when he was eleven years old and weighed just 65 pounds: he wanted to be a champion. He achieved his goals despite having little natural athletic skill, via pure dedication and tenacity. Termite became the nation's youngest national Golden Gloves winner at the age of sixteen. With 128 victories and only ten defeats, he was a great amateur. In his final year of high school, Termite turned pro and set his eyes on a world title. He won 58 fights in his professional career, including 48 knockouts. In a double main event with Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes at Caesar's Palace in 1980, he fought for the coveted world championship. Termite had settled into suburban life with his family in Deer Park, Texas, after retiring from boxing and enjoying a successful sales job, when the events of 9/11 altered his life. Termite had an enormous urge to serve his nation, which he believed was a divine calling. He inquired as to what he might do to help his nation. The surprising answer was pest control, something he'd learned from his father as a youngster. Someone was required by the coalition to travel into Iraq and clear military camps of snakes, scorpions, and bugs. Termite went to Iraq against his family's severe opposition. Termite's patriotism quickly extended beyond vipers and flies, and he began teaching boxing to troops, commanders, and relief workers. The news of this high-energy fighter with an inspiring can-do attitude quickly spread. Mike Gfoeller, the visionary coalition commander, set an incredible mission for the Texan: form an Iraqi Olympic boxing team in the midst of the battle and get them to the Athens Olympics. Iraq has been banned from the Olympics for decades due to heinous crimes against its athletes. It was a remote possibility, perhaps one in a million, according to Termite. Termite is an enthralling motivational speaker who travels the country spreading the message of overcoming obstacles to groups and schools. Producer Fred Kuehnert has converted Suzy Pepper's novel Termite into a screenplay for a major film picture.
