Mary Decker is an American former track and field athlete who owns seven American records in her event. She was born on August 4, 1958. Little Mary Decker, a pigtailed, 89-pound fourteen-year-old girl who made her international track debut as a pigtailed, 89-pound fourteen-year-old child, became one of the most famous tracks and field competitors of her period.

In 1973, she won the 800 meters at a US-Soviet meet in Minsk, earning her international recognition. Decker held the world records for 1000 meters (2:26.7), 880 yards (2:02.4), and 800 meters (2:01.8) by 1974. Decker established six world marks in 1982, covering distances ranging from a mile to ten thousand meters.
