Born on the 24th of October in 1954, Malcolm Bligh Turnbull is a former Australian politician and businessman who served as the 29th Prime Minister of Australia from 2015 to 2018. He was also the leader of the Liberal Party of Australia and became a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wentworth division in New South Wales after being elected in the 2004 election. Turnbull held the position of Minister for the Environment and Water in the Howard government from January to December 2007. Following his second-place finish in the 2007 leadership election, Turnbull became the Leader of the Opposition after winning a leadership spill in the subsequent year. However, his support for the Rudd government's Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme in December 2009 resulted in a leadership challenge by Tony Abbott, who defeated him by a single vote. After consistently poor opinion polling, Turnbull resigned from the Cabinet on September 14th, 2015, and later challenged Abbott, winning the Liberal Party leadership by ten votes, and becoming prime minister the following day. Since leaving politics, Turnbull has become an advisor to an Australian cybersecurity start-up called Kasada. He has also been vocal in his criticism of the Liberal Party's direction and has joined former prime minister Kevin Rudd in speaking out against the dominance of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp in Australian political discourse.
