Karl Scully Biography

Karl Scully is a tenor from Ireland. He began his career in 2000, when he played Count John McCormack in the film "Nora," directed by Pat Murphy and Gerard Stembridge and starring Ewan McGregor. He followed his film success by performing operatic roles such as Don Jose in Bizet's "Carmen," The Witch in Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel," MacHeath in "Beggars Opera," and Albert in Benjamin Britten's "Albert Herring," King Ouf in Chabrier's "L'etoile," Paolino in Cimarosa's "Il Matrimonio Segreto," Ferrando in Mozart's Karl was a permanent artist at Genoa's Teatro Carlo Felice Opera House during his time in Italy. While there, he appeared in solo roles alongside world-renowned artists such as Samuel Ramey, Robert Brubaker, and Dwayne Croft. Karl Scully is a recent Manhattan School of Music graduate who received the Liberace Scholarship and the Mae Zenke Orvis Endowed Opera Scholarship. Karl's dulcet Irish tones piqued the interest of two Irish Tenors, Anthony Kearns and Finbar Wright, who invited him to join the group in 2006. Karl quickly returned to the screen to star in The Irish Tenors and Friends, a 10-part television show in which he performed alongside legends such as Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Paul Carrick, Finbar Furey, Hayley Westenra, Shayne Ward, Sharon Shannon, Peter Grant, Rebecca Storm, Lucia Evans, as well as Celine Byrne, confirming his place in Irish folk law alongside Ronan Keating, Enya, and Bono. Karl was a participant of The Irish Tenors from 2006 to 2011, performing with them and as a soloist in over a hundred venues in Europe and the United States, including Avery Fischer Hall, Lincoln Center New York; Wolftrap Mainstage, Virginia; and Teatro Carlo Felice, Italy. Genoa; Moulin D'Ande, Normandie, France; and Ireland's National Concert Hall.
