Heidi Durrow Biography

Heidi W. Durrow is the New York Times best-selling author of The Girl Who Fell from the Sky, a coming-of-age story of a young biracial girl growing up in 1980s Portland, Oregon. Based loosely upon elements of Durrow's own life, the story has captivated readers across the nation, landing on the Indie Bestseller List and receiving an NAACP Image Award nomination.

Heralded as one of the "Best Novels of 2010" by The Washington Post, a "Top 10 Book of 2010" by The Oregonian, a "Top 10 Buzz Book of 2010" by The Boston Herald, and a "Top 10 Debut of 2010" by Booklist, The Girl Who Fell from the Sky garnered Durrow the 2008 Bellwether Prize for Literature of Social Change. The book has been adopted as a school-wide read at universities and high schools nationwide, including Lewis and Clark College.

Her writing has appeared in such publications as The Literary Review, Yale Journal of Law and Feminism, Essence, and Newsday. She is also an occasional essay contributor to NPR.
