Gillian Tett is a British journalist, author, and anthropologist renowned for her work at the Financial Times, a UK daily newspaper focusing on business and current economic affairs. She attended Clare College, Cambridge, earning a B.A. in Archaeology and Anthropology before undertaking a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology. She decided to pivot to journalism after being dissatisfied with her chosen field of study’s postmodernist direction.

In 1993, she joined the Financial Times as a correspondent from the former Soviet Union and Europe. Tett has held various roles, including Tokyo bureau chief and U.S. managing editor for the publication, where she gained fame for predicting the 2007–08 financial crisis through ethnographic research at J.P. Morgan. Her bestselling book, “Fool’s Gold” (2009), detailed the crisis and won the Spear’s Financial Book of the Year. Other notable works include “Saving the Sun” (2003), “The Silo Effect” (2015), and “Anthro-Vision” (2021), which won the Porchlight Business Book Award. 

Tett has received multiple accolades, including British Press Awards for Journalist of the Year and an OBE in 2024 for economic journalism, an award bestowed upon British individuals for making significant contributions in their expertise.
