Chuck Lorre is a writer, director, producer and composer. Lorre has created many hit television shows including "Grace Under Fire," "Dharma and Greg," "Cybill," "Two and a Half Men" and "The Big Bang Theory."
After high school, Lorre began attending the State University of New York at Potsdam. After two years, Lorre left school to pursue a career in music.
After leaving college, Lorre toured the United States as a songwriter and guitarist. He wrote Deborah Harry's radio hit single "French Kissin' in the USA" for her 1986 Rockbird album. He also composed the soundtrack to the 1987 TV series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" with Dennis Challen Brown.
Lorre shifted into television writing, working on the show "Roseanne." Lorre's first television creation was the ABC sitcom "Grace Under Fire," which premiered in 1993. It was nominated at the 52nd Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy.
Lorre's next project, "Cybill," starring Cybill Shepherd, aired for four seasons on CBS. It received critical acclaim, winning a Primetime Emmy Award in 1995 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for co-star Christine Baranski. "Cybill" also won two Golden Globe Awards in 1996 for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy and Best Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for Cybill Shepherd.
"Dharma & Greg," was created in 1997, one year before the end of "Cybill." The show ran for five seasons.
In 2003, Lorre co-created Two and a Half Men with Lee Aronsohn. The show focused on brothers Charlie and Alan Harper. The series premiered in 2003 on CBS and has become the highest-rated sitcom in America. After Sheen left the show, Ashton Kutcher joined the cast as Sheen's replacement.
Lorre co-created "The Big Bang Theory" with Bill Prady in 2007. The show follows two nerdy physicists, Leonard and Sheldon, living next door to an attractive young woman.The show has been nominated for multiple Emmy awards, and actor Jim Parsons has won two Emmys for his role of Dr. Sheldon Cooper.
Lorre's is also producing the CBS hit "Mike & Molly," which premiered in September 2010.
