Catherine Keener was raised in a Catholic household in Miami, Florida. She has Irish and Lebanese ancestors. She majored in English and History at Wheaton College. With one phrase in About Last Night, Keener broke into the film industry (1986). She appeared as an artist in the Seinfeld episode The Letter as a guest star. She portrayed Jerry's girlfriend, a painter who created the famed Kramer painting. In 2000, Keener was nominated for an Academy Honor for her part in Being John Malkovich, but Angelina Jolie won the award.
