There is no shortage of women who have been inspired by Molly Bloom's story. Many know it through the 2017 film "Molly's Game," but Bloom will give a first-hand account of her journey this spring in Iowa.
She is the featured speaker for the Quad-Cities Leadership Conference on March 7 at the Q-C Waterfront Convention Center. It will be just the second event of its kind put on by the Iowa Women Lead Change.
In anticipation for the speaking engagement, IWLC held a special screening of Molly's Game last week. Registration for the conference is currently $200 and it can be purchased at iwlcleads.org/events/quad-cities-conference.
Bloom tried for years to train for the Olympics and hoped to become a skiing champion. She overcame a scoliosis diagnosis as a teenager and a severe injury during Olympic qualifying to join the U.S. Ski Team and rise to third in the country in moguls.
After leaving the world of skiing to pursue other ventures, she became involved with running one of the most high-stakes underground poker games in the world. Bloom was implicated along with 34 others for her poker dealings and convicted, but has been able to bounce back and tell her amazing story.
Bloom authored the memoir, "Molly's Game: The True Story of the 26-Year-Old Woman Behind the Most Exclusive, High-Stakes Underground Poker Game in the World!" The Sorkin film about her life was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
