Freedom Writers teacher Erin Gruwell is one of the most powerful voices in education today. She will share her thoughts on the future of K-12 learning as the keynote speaker at PowerSchool Edge. This inaugural customer event will bring out education leaders to learn from each other. Gruwell is going to talk about her experiences and speak about the hopes she has for the future of K-12 schools. The event takes place February 25-28 at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista. Registration is currently open. Gruwell gained great recognition for her work with innercity kids in Long Beach, California. She taught English and found amazing ways to connect with her students. Gruwell listened to the concerns of her class and together they created a group called the Freedom Writers. Their collective stories were packaged together in the bestselling book, The Freedom Writers Diary, and later featured in a film titled Freedom Writers. All of Gruwell's 150 students graduated from high school and they now advocate for others in the education system through The Freedom Writers Foundation. Prior to starting the organization, she also taught on the university level at California State University.
