Zoe McLellan was reared in Washington after being born in La Jolla, California. She represented South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard, Washington, as homecoming queen in 1992. She started her television career in 1995 and later made appearances on Star Trek: Voyager and Sliders Diagnosis: Murder. In the fantasy picture Dungeons & Dragons from the year 2000, McLellan played her first and last significant cinematic role. Navy Petty Officer Jennifer Coates, played by McLellan, was a recurrent character on the CBS procedural JAG beginning in 2001. She received a promotion to series regular during the show's final season. McLellan was chosen to play the wife of Peter Krause's character in the ABC soap opera comedy-drama series Dirty Sexy Money after the show was canceled. Later, McLellan appeared as a guest star on The Mentalist and House, and he also had parts in a few Lifetime movies. She landed the female lead role in 2014 for NCIS: New Orleans, another CBS procedural.
