I am a general anthropologist with a particular interest in the Maya civilization of Guatemala and Mexico and Mesoamerican archaeology. Despite having expertise in Maya epigraphy, survey lithic analysis, and remote sensing mapping, I view myself as a generalist. One of the remaining disciplines where an interest in humanity and science may coexist is archaeology. I'm curious about the diversity of earlier civilizations because many aspects of those cultures were closely intertwined. To better comprehend the past and how to reflect it, I read widely and study their written and visual artifacts as well as their settlement. I heavily rely on computers to model and illustrate Maya civilization elements that don't lend themselves to straightforward two-dimensional depictions. In order to create my renderings, I employ a variety of software. I often begin using Photoshop and continue on to CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, and even AutoCAD before switching to Alias Maya 7. When dealing with topography, I begin with field measurements made with a Topcon Total Station before switching to Excel and ArcGIS. I make a TIN in ArcGIS. The TIN can be imported into the scene by exporting it in a Maya-compatible format.
