Since September 6, 2010, Mr. Mark V. Hurd has presided over Oracle Corporation. In 2010, Mr. Hurd joined Oracle. He is in charge of corporate strategy and direction for Oracle's international field operations, which include support, partnerships, channels, consulting, marketing, sales, and sales. He emphasizes strategy, innovation, leadership, and customers. He is also in charge of Oracle's industry-specific worldwide business groups, which provide solutions for sectors including telecommunications, finance, the health sciences, retail, utilities, and the public sector. From September 22, 2006, to August 2010, he held the positions of executive chairman and president and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Co. Mr. Hurd has narrowed HP's strategic priorities and focused its R&D spending on three long-term growth opportunities: next-generation enterprise data center architecture and services, technologies for always-connected, always-personal mobile experiences, and a widespread shift from analog to digital imaging and printing across the consumer, commercial, and industrial markets. Mr. Hurd has also increased HP's operational effectiveness, operational execution, financial performance, and customer focus. He spent 25 years with NCR Corp. before joining HP, where he held the positions of Chief Executive Officer from March 14, 2003, to April 2005 as well as President from July 2001 to March 2005. Mr. Hurd served as the Chief Operating Officer of NCR Corp. from September 2002 to March 14, 2003. In this role, he was in charge of maximizing operational effectiveness and financial performance across NCR's businesses, including Retail Store Automation, Financial Self Services, Payment and Imaging, Worldwide Customer Services, Systemedia, and Teradata Data Warehousing. Mr. Hurd held the positions of Executive Vice President of NCR Corp. from July 2000 to July 2001 Chief Operating Officer of the Teradata Division and Global Leader in enterprise data warehousing, analytic applications, and data warehousing services from July 2000 to March 2003. Mr. Hurd began his career at NCR Corp. in 1980 as a Field Salesman, and since then has held a number of sales and marketing positions with increasing management responsibilities, including Senior Vice President of Teradata Solutions Group from 1998 to June 2000 and Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Americas Professional Services Division from 1994 to 1998. He has over 30 years of leadership experience in the technology sector, is a specialist in computer hardware, and has held senior management positions. Since September 6, 2010, Mr. Hurd has served as a director of Oracle Corporation. He works as the Wright Center of Innovation's Director. From March 14, 2003, to April 12, 2005, he was a director of NCR Corp. From February 2008 to October 15, 2010, he held the position of Independent Director at Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. (previously News Corp.). From April 1, 2005, through August 2010, he worked as an executive director at Hewlett-Packard Company (HP). He is a member of the Fuqua School of Business board of visitors at Duke University. A group of the chairman and chief executive officers of IT businesses, Mr. Hurd is a member of the Technology Chief Executive Officer Council. One of Forbes' Market's Best Managers for 2009 was Mr. Hurd. Mr. Hurd was one of Fortune Magazine's 25 Most Powerful Business People in 2007. He received several honors, including inclusion in Barron's Best CEOs and Business 2.0's 50 Who Matter Now lists. He was recognized as the 2008 CEO of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle. He was twice among CRN's Top 25 Executives and three times on the list of the 25 Most Influential Executives. He has received the Baylor Legacy Award—the 2012–2013 Baylor Meritorious Achievement Award—in appreciation of his exceptional service and philanthropy to Baylor. Mr. Hurd graduated from Baylor University in 1979 with a degree in business administration.
