Tough Mudder, a brutal 10-plus mile deterrent course arrangement with more than 50 occurrences on three mainlands in 2013, was created by Will Dean, who also serves as its CEO. More than one million people have joined the group to date, and they have contributed more than $5.8 million to Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder's partner organization in the great cause. While sitting in his apartment at age 28, Dean, a second-year MBA candidate at Harvard Business School, had an idea for Tough Mudder and submitted it for consideration in the Business Plan Contest. Tough Mudder's inaugural event was conducted at a ski resort in Pennsylvania in 2010, which was not quite a year after the previous one. Tough Mudder has become the premier experiential challenge organization in the world in less than four years. More than 150 people operate from a base camp in Brooklyn, New York, and extension offices in London and Melbourne under the direction of CEO Dean. Dean was selected to Crain's annual 40 Under 40 list in 2012 after his company generated more than $75.5 million in revenue and expanded by more than 3250 percent since its founding in late 2009. For his administrative efforts, he received the WWP Talkhouse Award in 2013, and he was also selected as a finalist for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
