Wendy Grant-John Biography

The senior Aboriginal Advisor at Deloitte is Wendy Grant-John. She learned social skills and teachings from her family and the surrounding families as she grew up. Wendy, a member of the Musqueam Chief and Council, has spent the majority of her adult life advocating for her community and engaging with First Nations people throughout the country in different forums. Wendy holds two Honorary Doctorates in Law and is a recipient of the Order of BC. Madame Award John was the major woman who chose the Regional Chief for the Assembly of First Nations and spent three years as the Musqueam Chief. She helped organize one of the main Aboriginal commercial fisheries in Canada in her capacity as Musqueam Chief. She most recently served as the British Columbia Associate Regional Director General for Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. She has also acted as a temporary lay bencher for the Law Society of British Columbia as a board member for Canada Lands Company Limited. Additionally, she has acted in place of a regular commissioner on the Pacific Salmon Commission. She was a founding member, executive, and author of the Musqueam Weavers as well as the Aboriginal Healing Foundation. Mrs. Award John most recently served as the Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada's designated representative on the subject of matrimonial real property on reserves.
