Mr. Griffin spent his early years in the suburbs of Philadelphia and New York City. In 1946, he enlisted in the American Army. He received counterintelligence training at Fort Holabird in Maryland after completing his basic training. He was given to the German Army of Occupation first, and then, finally, to the staff of Major General I.D. White, a U.S. Constabulary officer at the time. For the Korean War interfering with his education at Phillips University Marburg a der Lahn Germany, Mr. Griffin was evaluated in 1951 as being well-trained. He served under Lieutenant General White in Korea as an acting X Corps (Group) data officer while earning the Combat Infantry Badge as a battle reporter. Mr. Griffin was appointed Chief of the Publications Division of the U.S. Armed Forces Signal Aviation Test and Support Activity at Fort Rucker Alabama upon his discharge from well-trained in 1953.
