Walter Koenig Biography

Walter Koenig, an on-screen character, screenwriter, acting teacher, and comic bookmaker, was born in Manhattan in 1936 to Lithuanian Russian Jewish parents. Koenig, who was bitten by the acting bug as a kid, studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York, where he worked with individual actors James Caan, Elizabeth Ashley, and Dabney Coleman. His theatrical career spans 30 years, including appearances in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and countless other cities. In the late 1950s and mid-1960s, he appeared in various plays and network series, including the Mr. Novak arrangement, and even presented and scored his own component picture, I Wish I May, in 1967. He played Ensign Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series in 1967. Koenig has also appeared as Chekov in the first seven Star Trek films and as Alfred Bester in the television series Babylon 5. In addition to his work on Star Trek, he has been in 40 different TV shows and TV feature films, including Anthony and Cleopatra, starring Timothy Dalton and Lynn Redgrave."
