Wale Biography

Wale is the stage name of Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, an American rapper from Washington, D.C. When his song Dig Dug (Shake It) became popular in his area in 2006, he shot to fame. Wale became well-known in his hometown and continued to make music for a localized audience. Wale was discovered in 2006 by producer Mark Ronson, who signed him to Allido Records in 2007. Wale released many mixtapes and appeared in national media, including MTV and several Black-American-focused periodicals, while signed to that company. In 2008, a song called Ridin' in That Black Joint was included in the soundtrack of the famous video game Saints Row 2. Wale got a $1.3 million deal with Interscope Records in 2008, and his first album Attention Deficit was released in 2009, with the hits Chillin, Pretty Girls, and World Tour. Despite its low sales, the album garnered excellent reviews from critics. Wale joined with Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group in early 2011, and on May 23, 2011, members of the label released Self Made Vol. 1, a compilation album. Ambition, his second studio album, was released on November 1, 2011, to mediocre reviews. The Gifted, his third studio album, was released on June 25, 2013, to mostly favorable reviews and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. On March 31, 2015, his second Billboard number one album, The Album About Nothing, was published.
