Volkmar Weissig Biography

Volkmar Weissig, Sc.D., Ph.D., is a Full Professor of Pharmacology and the Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Zurich. Dr. Weissig worked as an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Northeastern University in Boston, MA before joining the Midwestern University faculty. Dr. Weissig holds 16 licenses and has published more than 100 research papers, audit pieces, and book chapters, the majority of which are in the field of nano medication conveyance frameworks. He also changed and distributed eight novels. He serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Liposome Research and is a member of many other Editorial Boards. Dr. Weissig has been an invited speaker at over 30 international conferences across the world, and he was named a Fellow of the World Technology Network in July 2009. Dr. Weissig was elected Inaugural President of the World Mitochondria Society in October 2014. Dr. Weissig received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry, as well as his postdoctoral Sc.D. degree in Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, all from Martin-Luther University in Halle (Germany). He completed a lengthy period of postdoctoral collaborations at the Cardiology Research Center in Moscow (Russia), the Academic Department of Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London (UK), the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Czechoslovakian Academy of Science in Prague (CSFR), the College of Pharmacy and the College of Medicine at the University of Florida Gainesville FL, and Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
