Victor Montgomery Biography

Victor Montgomery III is a crisis interventionist, suicide rescuer, combat trauma expert, and addiction counselor. Vic feels that heart-to-heart resuscitation is beneficial to the customer. He uses the eliciting behavioral change therapy method to assist veterans and active duty warriors in examining and resolving the main issue of ambivalence. As a result of their 'wounded soul' and culture shock, a growing number of veteran combat fighters have come home to their families with a distinct combination of mental and behavioral health distresses that must be properly examined. Suicide is a possibility for many people. Mr. Montgomery is the author of Healing Suicidal Veterans: Recognizing, Supporting, and Responding to Their Pleas for Help (New Horizon Press, October 2009), as well as a seminar speaker and author of Life in the Balance Seminars for communities interested in learning about the dynamics of war trauma, psychological wounds of war, and what happens in war zones. Vic explains how to detect suicide warning signs, including symptoms and causes, as well as how to recognize alcohol and drug addiction and what family and friends can do to aid a sad and suffering vet. Vic joined the Marine Corps at the age of 18 and attended Camp Pendleton's advanced Infantry Training Regiment (ITR) combat training as a 0311 'grunt', skilled rifleman. From 1963 through 1967, this gung-ho 'leatherneck' served in the USMC. He crossed the pond (Pacific Ocean) in 1964 on the troop transport ship USS Mann and served 13 months overseas, initially as military police base security with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Iwakuni, Japan, and later receiving TAD orders to secure and support MAG and VMA air units flying Skyhawks and Phantoms out of DaNang and ChuLai, Vietnam. Vic has worked with numerous soldiers and their families through VA crisis hotlines and out-patient clinics from California to New York as a Marine Corps veteran and trained interventionist. He graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Masters in Higher Education, Graduate Studies in Clinical Psychology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Human Development from the Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa, California. Vic got specific training from clinicians at the VA Medical Center for veteran suicide crisis interventions and rescues, and in 2008 he worked as a hotline therapist for the National Suicide Crisis Hotline in Canandaigua, New York. The author has worked as a main therapist, family counselor, educator, and trained and registered addiction expert for a number of years. For over two decades, he has counseled men, women, and families. Vic and his wife now live in Upstate New York's western region.
