Vicky Colbert is the founder and director of Fundación Escuela Nueva as well as a co-author of the Escuela Nueva educational model, which is well-known across the world for its efficacy in raising educational standards. She has created, enhanced, and maintained this innovation in a variety of capacities. As the first Escuela Nueva National Coordinator, Director of Distance Education at Javeriana University, Vice Minister of Education of Colombia, and Regional Education Adviser for UNICEF in the LAC area, she held a number of positions. Assuring the caliber and longevity of the Escuela Nueva model in Colombia and internationally, she formed the nonprofit organization Fundación Escuela Nueva in 1987. FEN continues to adapt its tried-and-true, cutting-edge curriculum to new circumstances and demographics under Colbert's direction. In 1987, the Escuela Nueva methodology was modified for use with migrant and displaced people in urban settings and emergency circumstances (2001). On The Global Journal's list of the 100 Best NGOs worldwide, it came in at number 42. The Schwab Foundation and Ashoka have honored Colbert as an Outstanding Social Entrepreneur. She received the inaugural Clinton Global Citizenship Award in 2005, the World Technology Award in Social Entrepreneurship in 2005, and the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2006. She was awarded the Kravis Prize in Leadership in 2011. Escuela Nueva received the WISE Award from the Qatar Foundation in 2009 in recognition of its work to advance fundamental education in low-income nations all around the world. Vicky Colbert was selected by the Qatar Foundation to receive the WISE Prize for Education in 2013. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology from Javeriana University in Colombia and two master's degrees in comparative international education and sociology of education from Stanford University in the United States.
