Vicki B. Escarra is the president and chief executive officer of Feeding America, the country's leading local hunger relief organization that provides food to Americans in need through a network of more than 200 food banks. Since taking office in 2006, she has led the organization through its most significant period of growth in its three-decade history, increasing the number of people served annually from 25 million to 37 million and the amount of food and staples delivered annually from 2 billion to more than 3 billion pounds. The association under Escarra's leadership underwent a complete transformation, including a successful update of the national brand to become Feeding America and a 144% increase in fundraising pledges. 2009 saw Escarra and the Feeding America organization honored with the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute's "Freedom from Want award." Escarra is a member of the Task Force on Economic Recovery and Domestic Poverty and is on President Obama's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.
