Boyd has been a writer for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for 18 years and now serves as the arts editor, making him one of the few African Americans in charge of expression inclusion at a major metropolitan newspaper. Boyd is a well-known writer, editorial manager, and social commentator who has published work in a number of publications and newspapers. She has published essays, articles, and audits in Step Into a World: A Global Anthology of the New Black Literature, Ms. The Washington Post African American Review, The Oxford American Book magazine, and other periodicals. In 1990, Boyd founded EightRock, a leading journal of African-American arts and culture. She contributed to the creation of HealthQuest, the nation's first widely read magazine focusing on African-American health, in 1992. Unknown National Book Critics Circle member Boyd holds an MFA in experimental writing from Goucher College and a four-year certification in news reporting from Northwestern University. The first biography of abstract great Zora Neale Thurston in 25 years, Boyd's book Wrapped in Rainbows, was released in January 2003 to widespread acclaim.
