Valentina Cervi Biography

In Rome, Italy, Cervi was conceived. She is the granddaughter of the renowned Italian on-screen figure Gino Cervi and the daughter of businessman Tonino Cervi. At the age of 10, Cervi made her acting debut in Carlo Cotti's 1986 film Portami la luna. She also took on a role speaking English in Jane Campion's 1996 film The Portrait of a Lady. One of her most well-known roles was the title role in the 1997 Agns Merlet-directed film Artemisia. Although loosely based on the biography of the painter Artemisia Gentileschi, the relationship between Agostino Tassi (played by Miki Manojlovic) and Artemisia was presented as an eager endeavor rather than a rape. She had an appearance as Arianna in BBC TV's Italian investigative drama Zen in 2011. She also appeared in 2011's Distretto di Polizia on Canale 5 as Valentina. In Cary Fukunaga's 2011 adaptation of Jane Eyre, Cervi played Bertha. She most recently portrayed the historic vampire Salome in the HBO television drama True Blood.
