When Horton was advised to use a wheelchair at age 22, his tenacity and stability developed into a company. Horton developed a brace that allowed him to maintain vertical mobility rather than resigning himself to a life in a wheelchair. The Keen Mobility Company offers top-notch products focused on security mobility and comfort for the elderly and injured who are disabled so they may give back to society rather than take from it. The company now closes agreements worth more than $2.5 million annually thanks to Vail. There are 12 salespeople and 25 different product offers totaling more than $1.7 million in the capital. Sharp Mobility was listed on the Governor's Honor Role for Employers of People with Disabilities and has also been named one of the three best development stage companies in the state by the Oregon Entrepreneurs Forum. Sharp Mobility is ranked #30 on the list of the 100 Fastest-Growing Private Companies. Vail has been appointed to the Secretary of State's Advisory Committee on Global Disability Policy. The Portland Business Journal named Vail one of the Top 40 Under 40 City of Portland Administrators, and Senator Gordon Smith referred to her as an Oregon Healthcare Hero on the US Senate floor.
