Udit Narayan Biography

The songs of Nepalese playback singer Udit Narayan Jha have primarily been heard in Bollywood and Nepali films. He has garnered five Filmfare Awards and three National Film Awards. In 2001, the late King of Nepal, Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, presented Narayan with the Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu. Narayan completed his S.L.C. (class 10) studies at P.B. School Rajbiraj Nepal, and he later earned an intermediate degree from Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus in Kathmandu. Over the course of the 1990s and the early 2000s, he was one of the most well-known Bollywood vocalists. Udit Narayan, known as "The King of Playback" and "Magical Voice," was a prominent playback singer in Bollywood from 1988 to 2005. He has provided the on-screen vocals for several Bollywood celebrities. He sings duets primarily with Alka Yagnik. He started his career in 1970 as a staff musician for the radio program Radio Nepal, where he sang largely well-known Nepali folk songs in Bhojpuri and Nepali Maithili. After eight years, Narayan relocated to Bombay to pursue classical music at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan thanks to a musical scholarship provided by the Indian Embassy in Nepal. Rajesh Roshan, a renowned music director, and composer invited him to playback sing for the 1980 Hindi film Unees Bees. Narayan was given the chance to perform with Mohammed Rafi, a legendary vocalist. Soon after, Narayan provided the vocals for a number of other films, such as 1983's Bade Dil Wala, in which he sang a duet with famous vocalist Lata Mangeshkar and a song by famed composer R. D. Burman. In the same year, Narayan performed in the movie Kehdo Pyar Hai alongside Kishore Kumar, who was at the time the most well-known and prosperous Bollywood playback singer. In 1988, Anand-Milind offered him the chance to sing all the songs for the popular Bollywood film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak alongside Alka Yagnik, which led to him winning a Filmfare Award. This was a key turning point in his career. Up to 21 of his songs are included in the BBC's list of the top 40 Bollywood soundtracks of all time. More than 25000 songs in 36 languages have been performed by him.
