As lieutenants in the Navy, Tyler Benson and his co-founder Benjamin Mantica, who is older than 30, discovered that the galley of a warship, where the crew's meals were prepared and served, was the finest location to relax from the strain of deployment.
The encounter would become the germ of the concept for a restaurant group and incubator focused on food halls. The Galley Group's original site was the Smallman Galley in Pittsburgh, but it has since swiftly spread to other cities in the Rust Belt, including Ohio City and Detroit. By the end of 2021, Benson hopes to have 13 Galleys.
