Former American football player Troy Polamalu, of Samoan heritage, had his whole twelve-year career with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a part of two Super Bowl-winning Steelers squads and was named the league's defensive player of the year in 2010. Polamalu was utilized by the Steelers in a significant number of defensive plays and in a variety of defensive responsibilities. He tied the NFL record for the most sacks by a safety in a single game with three in only his third season (2005). He made his third straight participation in the Pro Bowl in 2007, starting at strong safety for the AFC with free safety Ed Reed of the Baltimore Ravens. In 2005, Polamalu was selected for the AP NFL All-Pro Second Team, and in 2006, he was chosen to the First Team.
