Tracis Thoms Biography

Born and reared in Baltimore, Maryland, Tracie Thoms. She began studying acting when she was eleven years old and then went to the Baltimore School for the Arts, Howard University, where she received a BFA, and finally the Julliard School for postgraduate acting training. Her list of credits on television is extensive. She is well-known for her roles as Mahandra McGinty from "Wonderfalls," Sasha from "As If," and, of course, Kat Miller from the CBS drama "Cold Case," where she was a series regular. Additionally, she has appeared as a guest on "Private Practice," "The Shield," and "Law & Order." She has furthermore made appearances on "Human Target" and a couple "Harry's Law" episodes. Tracie has had several film appearances. She is arguably most recognized for her part in the Broadway musical "RENT" which was adapted for the big screen. She portrays Maureen Johnson's attorney and lover Joanne Jefferson (played by Idina Menzel.) Tracie was a self-described RENThead (RENT fan) before she was chosen for the "RENT" movie. Additionally, Tracie starred in the 2004 movies "Brother to Brother" and "The Warrior Class" as well as the Comedy Central movies "Porn 'n Chicken" from 2002. Alongside Anne Hathaway, she starred in the 2006 movie "The Devil Wears Prada." Along with her friend and former "RENT" co-star Rosario Dawson, Tracie also makes an appearance in the City Lights Pictures feature "Descent." Rosario and Tracie previously acted together in Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof." She also had an appearance in the movies "Sex and Breakfast" in 2007 and "Peter and Vandy" in 2009. Additionally, Tracie was seen in Chris Rock's "Good Hair." Tracie continues to perform and sing. She has recently starred in the movie "Looper" and in the CW TV series "Emily Owens MD."
