A businessman from Malaysia named Tony Fernandes. He established Tune Air Sdn. Bhd., who used the slogan "Now everyone can fly" to introduce Malaysians to the first low-cost, no-frills airline, AirAsia. In mid-2003, he actively lobbied Malaysia's then-Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to suggest the notion of open skies agreements with Singapore's neighbors Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. He is also the club's biggest stakeholder. These countries have given AirAsia and other low-cost airlines landing privileges as a result.
