Tom Price Biography

Tom Price was initially chosen to serve as the 6th district congressman for Georgia in November 2004. Price spent four terms in the Georgia State Senate, including two as the Minority Whip, before moving to Washington. He played a key role in the Republican revival in Georgia in 2002 when the party won over the State Senate, and Price went on to become the first Republican Senate Majority Leader in Georgian history. Rep. Price has established himself in Congress as a dynamic leader, relentless problem-solver, and the go-to Republican for effective health care legislation. He is a member of the House Ways & Means Committee. Price was chosen to lead the House Committee on the Budget in the 114th Congress. He has held the positions of Chairman of the Republican Study Committee and Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee in prior Congresses. Price has been a ferocious critic of government waste and a staunch supporter of less government and lower expenditure. He is dedicated to delivering good solutions under moral leadership. Rep. Price practiced orthopedic surgery in private practice for almost 20 years. Prior to moving to Washington, he served as an assistant professor and the medical director of the orthopedic clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he also taught medical students and residents. He did his orthopedic surgery residency at Emory University after earning his bachelor's and doctor of medicine degrees from the University of Michigan. Elizabeth, his wife, and Congressman Price live in Roswell, Georgia. They only have a son. The nomination of Price to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services in the incoming Trump administration was made public on November 29, 2016.
