Todd Farrell Biography

In the Media Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Todd Farrell is a Ph.D. candidate in the biomechatronics department. The control of robotic prosthetics utilizing myoelectric signal processing and machine learning is Farrell's primary area of study focus. Outside of his work in research, he serves as chief technology officer and advisor for the Pacific Social Architecting Corporation and is an instructor at MIT's D-Lab, where he develops projects centered on the various clinical, business, and social issues related to the distribution of prosthetics in developing countries. Farrell formerly worked at Medtronic on signal processing and pattern recognition techniques to lower the number of extra shocks in pacemakers and defibrillators. In addition to developing data-mining algorithms for wireless sensor networks with the Media and Design Laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, he has conducted computer vision research at the Microsystems Technology Laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, information visualization research at the Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, and computer science and artificial intelligence research at the MIT.
