T.J. Holmes Biography

Journalist T.J. Holmes has won awards, and he is a well-known television personality in the country. Holmes joined ABC News as an anchor/correspondent in September 2014 and now regularly contributes to "Good Morning America," the most popular network morning show. While working for CNN, Holmes initially rose to attention on a national level. He anchored "CNN Saturday/Sunday Morning" for 5 years, dominating breaking news stories. The coverage of Saddam Hussein's death in 2006, the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, in 2008, and Glasgow Airport, in 2007, were all anchored by Holmes for the network. He also served as an anchor from Ground Zero for the poignant commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, and he covered Pope Benedict XIV's historic first visit to the United States in 2008, including serving as an anchor from the liturgy at Yankee Stadium. Holmes also covered some of the most captivating news events, such as the horrific shootings at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, the Deepwater Horizon oil disaster in New Orleans, and the devastating storms in Joplin, Missouri. During the first presidential debate between Senators John McCain and Barack Obama, he reported from the campus of the University of Mississippi and obtained some of the first accounts from the survivors of US Airways Flight 1549, which had crashed-landed in the Hudson River in New York in January 2009. In the San Francisco Bay Area, Holmes formerly held the position of news anchor at NBC11. His first Summer Games to be staged following the September 11th attacks were the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, which he covered while working for NBC. In addition, Holmes covered several other issues that received widespread media coverage, including the historic 2003 recall election for the California governor and the Scott Peterson double murder case. Before joining NBC11, Holmes worked as a reporter and weekend anchor for KTHV in Little Rock, Arkansas. In Joplin, Missouri, at KSNF, he began his professional life. Holmes is a University of Arkansas alumnus. He now sits on the Board of Visitors at Atlanta's Emory University as well as the University's Chancellor's Board of Advisers. He has been an active participant in both the National Association of Black Journalists and the 100 Black Men of Atlanta.
