Tina Tchen practices law. Between 2011 and 2017, Tchen worked as Michelle Obama's chief of staff and the president's assistant. She also led the first-ever White House Summit on Working Families and the first-ever United States of Women Summit while working in the Obama Administration as the Executive Director of the Council for Women and Girls. In order to make sure that all branches of the federal government attended to the concerns of women and girls, President Obama established the council in March 2009. She formerly served as the White House Office of Public Engagement Director. Tchen worked as a partner in corporate litigation at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP prior to entering the White House. Tchen handled high-profile cases including contract disputes, real estate issues, constitutional law conflicts over mergers and acquisitions, and shareholder disputes. In state and federal class actions, she also defended governmental entities like the Chicago Housing Authority, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and the Illinois Department of Public Aid. Tina is a successful lawyer who has made a name for herself as a strong proponent of gender equality. Tina is actively participating in the Time's Up movement, wherein 300 powerful women in the entertainment industry have joined forces to establish a legal defense fund with the goal of assisting women who are victims of sexual harassment in all fields of work. Ms. Tchen co-founded the National Women's Law Center-managed Time's Up Legal Defense Fund, which has gathered over $22 million to help victims of workplace sexual harassment get in touch with attorneys.
