His maternal great-grandfather was Russian-Jewish, and he also has English, German, Scottish, Dutch, and Irish heritage. He chose to enroll in an acting class as an elective and made the decision to pursue a career in acting by coincidence. He moved to New York City with his family, where he studied acting and started doing role auditions.
