Tim Jackson Biography

Tim Jackson is the director of RESOLVE, the Research group on Lifestyles, Values, and Environment, and now serves as the economics commissioner on the Sustainable Development Commission of the UK government. He spent five years as a Senior Researcher at the Stockholm Environment Institute before joining the University of Surrey as a Professor of Sustainable Development, the first person to occupy the position in a UK university. In May 2006, he established RESOLVE as an inter-disciplinary partnership spanning four fields — CES, psychology, sociology, and economics — with the goal of fostering knowledge of the connections among way of life, social values, and the environment. Additionally, he wrote the well-known book Prosperity Without Growth. He chairs the BankInvest, a Danish investment firm, "New Energy Solutions" advisory board, and works as an assistant researcher on a Templeton Foundation project called "The Pursuit of Happiness." In 1998, Tim's environmental drama The Cry of the Bittern earned a Public Awareness of Science Drama Award. Tim is also a celebrated writer. Variations, his most recent piece, has been nominated for the 2008 Sony Drama prize and won the 2007 Grand Prix Marulic.
