Draper Fisher Jurvetson was founded by Timothy C. Draper, who also serves as a managing director. His initial idea—using "viral marketing" through web-based e-mail to geometrically disseminate an Internet product to its market—played a key role in the success of Hotmail and Yahoo Mail and has since become a common marketing strategy for thousands of companies. Tim serves on the boards of Glam, Kyte.tv, Meebo, ShareThis, SocialText, Wigix, and DFJ Plug 'N Play firms on behalf of Draper Fisher Jurvetson. Baidu (BIDU), Parametric Technology (PMTC), Hotmail (MSFT), PLX Technologies (PLXT), Preview Travel (TVLY), Digidesign (AVID), and other companies have had prior achievements. Tim established the DFJ Global Network, a global association of early-stage venture capital firms with locations in over 30 cities. Tim is a popular keynote speaker at entrepreneurial conferences across the world and a supporter of free markets and entrepreneurs. He has also received multiple accolades and distinctions for his work and frequently makes headlines on TV, radio, and other media outlets. He ranked #7 on the Forbes Midas List and #52 among the 100 most influential Harvard alumni. He was ranked as the top venture capital deal maker for 2008 by Always-On. For his contributions to green and sustainable energy, he received the Commonwealth Club's Distinguished Citizen Award. Tim is the founder of the course and the Chairman of BizWorld, a 501c3 company devoted to teaching young people about entrepreneurship and business through simulation. He also sits on the Board of Dean's Advisors at Harvard Business School. Tim just made his appearance on the reality show "Startup U." Tim had held a position on the California State Board of Education. For the California General Election in November 2000, Tim started a statewide cyber-initiative on school choice. He belonged to the Orange Circle of Ukraine and the International Economic Council of Singapore. He was on the board of the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. He graduated from Stanford University with a BS in Electrical Engineering and the Harvard Business School with an MBA.
