Thomas LeBlanc Biography

On August 1st, 2017, Thomas ("Tom") J. LeBlanc was appointed as the 17th President of George Washington University. From July 2005 until July 2017, Dr. LeBlanc held the positions of Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Miami prior to taking office. Prior to that, from 1996 to 2005, he held the position of Robert L. and Mary L. Sproull Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering at the University of Rochester. The State University of New York awarded Dr. LeBlanc a B.S. in computer science in 1977. The University of Wisconsin at Madison awarded him an M.S. and a Ph.D. in computer science in 1979 and 1982, respectively. He became an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, after earning his Ph.D. For his work in distributed and parallel computer systems, he was given the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator award in 1987. From 1990 until his appointment as dean in 1996, he held the position of chair of the department of computer science.
