Thierry Baudet Biography

Lawyer and historian Thierry H.P. Baudet, LL.M., teaches at the University of Leiden's Law Faculty. Under the guidance of professor Paul Cliteur, he is also working on his Ph.D. doctoral thesis, which is about multiculturalism and European unity as well as national identity. In addition, he frequently plans activities for Justus Lipsius, the student organization for legal philosophy. One such event was a discussion on the contentious Deventer homicide case with Maurice de Hond and Ernest Louwes as guests (in April 2009). Despite being in his twenties, Baudet has amassed significant expertise as a chairman moderator and public speaker thanks to his enthusiasm for debate. He started serving as a chair at an international Model UN when he was sixteen years old and did so all the way through college. Over 10 Model UN conferences have been presided over by him in the last four years. He was tasked with lobbying and drafting resolutions, challenging groups of up to 400 young people from different countries—each of whom was representing a state or non-governmental organization—to find reasonable compromises. Thierry had his own radio talk show as a student at the University of Amsterdam. He traveled the nation in quest of thought-provoking conversations with politicians, writers, activists, and even Johan Cruyff, who participated in his show. He also planned "the biggest chocolate tasting in the world" for this episode, with chocolate overindulgers Hanneke Groenteman and Wibi Soerjadi. As he continued to pursue his passion for journalism, Baudet eventually made several years of contributions to a show as a reporter and sporadic host on BNR Nieuwsradio.
