Thea Monyee communicates her perspective to audiences around the country. She has been on BET's The Way We Do It and Lyric Cafe television shows, and her voice has been heard on Los Angeles radio stations including 102.3 KJLH, 92.3 The Beat, and 90.7 KPFK. Together with her partner Gaknew Roxwel, Monyee is an emcee that lights up stages with live music and timely poetry. Monyee spends her off-stage time working with foster adolescents and is presently a marital and family therapist in Los Angeles, California. She has been greatly influenced by the writings of Daniel Quinn, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Octavia Butler, Marshall Rosenburg, and many more. Her most recent endeavor is "Sex and Sisterhood," a course on fostering female relationships that she co-presented with HBO Def Poet Mayda del Valle. She has also led workshops on hip-hop poetry for young people aged nine to eighteen, teen relationship support groups, and women's self-awareness groups. Monyee finished her first solo poetry CD, named in/Tuition, after eight years.
