Rapper and actor Jayceon Terrell Taylor is better known by his stage name, The Game (or just Game). The Game is well recognized for his work as a rapper in the West Coast hip-hop community and for signing with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records as one of his signers. He was born in Compton, California, and signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment label immediately after releasing his debut mixtape, You Know What It Is Vol. 1. Following the success of his major-label debut album, The Documentary in 2005, he proceeded to have success with the follow-up Doctor's Advocate in 2006. The Documentary received a double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America in March 2005. The Game was a rising musician in the 2000s who was credited with a significant role in reviving the West Coast hip-hop culture and competing with many of his East Coast contemporaries. Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine added The Game to G-Unit. To end his contractual responsibilities with G-Unit in the summer of 2006, Game parted ways with Aftermath Entertainment and signed with Geffen Records, another record company within Universal Music Group's Interscope-Geffen-A&M division. On November 14, 2006, The Game's second big label album, Doctor's Advocate, was released. It became his second consecutive album to enter the U.S. Billboard 200 list at number one. Dr. Dre didn't contribute any production to Doctor's Advocate. On their list of the Top 50 Albums of 2005, Pitchfork Media ranked the album at number 35. For the number-one hit Hate It or Love It, The Game received two nominations, including the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song and the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The finest hip-hop album of 2006 was picked by The New York Times.
