Terri Lyne Carrington, a Grammy Award-winning drummer, author, and bandleader, was born in Medford, Massachusetts, in 1965. After engaging in a diverse visiting career for more than 20 years with luminaries such as Herbie Hancock Shorter, Wayne Jarreau, Al Getz, Stan Sanborn, David Joseph Sample Clark, Cassandra Wilson, Terry, Dianne Reeves returned to her old neighborhood after being chosen as a teacher at her alma mater, Berklee College of Music. In 2003, Terri Lyne earned a distinguished doctorate from Berklee College of Music. Carrington arrived in New York in 1983 after focusing under the full grant at Berklee with the help of her mentor Jack DeJohnette. She collaborated with James Moody, Lester Bowie, Pharoah Sanders, and other well-known artists for a considerable time. She moved to Los Angeles in the late 1980s, gaining fame as the house drummer for the Arsenio Hall Show and later as the drummer for Quincy Jones' late-night TV program VIBE, which Sinbad facilitated. Real Life Story, Carrington's Grammy-winning debut CD released on Verve in 1989, included Carlos Santana. Grover Jr. Washington Shorter, Wayne Rushen, Patrice Theodore Albright Scofield, John Hiram Bullock, and Greg Osby. Other indie CDs feature Herbie Hancock's 2002 album Jazz is a Spirit. Thomas Gary Wallace Roney Thomas Blanchard Kevin Eubanks and Bob Hurst's 2004 film Structure, which features Adam Rogers, Jimmy Haslip, and Greg Osby, is a valuable grouping. The two CDs, released under the ACT Music moniker and enjoyed widespread acclaim in both the European and Japanese markets, were distributed in Europe.
