American author, naturalist, and conservationist Terri Irwin also runs the Australia Zoo in Beerwah, Queensland. She started an autonomous facility for injured predator animals at age 22 while still working for her family's trucking company as an Oregon native from the United States. She met naturalist Steve Irwin, whose father established Australia Zoo, by an incident when she was touring wildlife rehabilitation centers in Australia in 1991. The Crocodile Hunter, their unique television nature documentary series, and its spin-off shows, Croc Files and The Crocodile Hunter Diaries, starred the couple after their 1992 wedding. Bindi and Robert were their two children before Steve Irwin passed away in 2006. 2009 saw her naturalize as an Australian citizen.
