Tasso Azevedo Biography

Social entrepreneur and expert on forestry and climate change, Tasso Azevedo. He served as the first Chief and Director General of the Brazilian Forest Service, founding and leading the Brazilian non-governmental organization Imaflora (Institute of Forest and Agriculture Management and Certification), the National Forest Program at the Ministry of the Environment in Brazil, and the National Forest Commission. Tasso was a crucial figure in creating the Amazon Fund, the National Plan to Combat Deforestation in the Amazon of Brazil, which resulted in a more than 75% decrease in deforestation in the area, and the identification of Brazil's objectives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Tasso is a graduate of the University of So Paulo's School of Agriculture and a member of the boards of Amazon, Imaflora, Planeta Sustentável, and the REDD Task Force. Along with these institutions, he also teaches in post-graduate programs at Fundaço Instituto de Administraço, Fundaço Getulio Vargas, Pontificia Universidade Católica, Fundaço Don Cabral, and UniEthos.
