Tariq Ramadan Biography

In addition to teaching at the Oxford Faculty of Theology, Tariq Ramadan is a Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University (Oriental Institute St Antony's College). He is a Senior Research Fellow at Doshisha University (Kyoto, Japan), a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Qatar, a Visiting Professor at the University of Malaysia Perlis, and the Director of the Research Center of Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) (Doha Qatar). His degrees from the University of Geneva include a Ph.D. in Arabic and Islamic Studies and an MA in Philosophy and French Writing. He received individualized, focused training in model Islamic scholarship from Al-Azhar University experts in Cairo, Egypt (ijazat in seven orders). Through his writings and speeches, Tariq has contributed to the conversation about Muslim difficulties in the West and Islamic revival in the Muslim world. He is energetic at both the academic and grassroots levels, speaking worldwide about religion, morality, social justice, the environment, interfaith, and intercultural debate.
