About Tananarive Due

Tananarive Due Biography

Tananarive Due, the American Book Award winner, is one of the country's most versatile writers. Her seven works range from intense spine-chilling thrillers to science fiction to a social liberties diary. According to Publishers Weekly, which ranked both The Living Blood and My Soul to Keep among the finest novels of the year and will soon be a substantial picture, The Living Blood, which won a 2002 American Book Award, should set the bar for fantastic thrill rides of the new century. The International Horror Guild named The Good House "Best Novel." An NAACP Image Award was chosen for the film The Black Rose, based on the life of pioneer Madam C.J. Walker. Due's most recent book, Joplin's Ghost, blends celestial history and the modern music industry as a young R&B musician is transformed by encounters with the ghost of Scott Joplin, the Ragtime King, in the plot. Due also gave history new life by co-authoring Freedom in the Family: A Mother-Daughter Memoir of the Fight for Civil Rights with her mother, social equality activist Patricia Stephens Due, and working at a profit Rose, an actual book based on Alex Haley's research. Black Issues Book Review awarded Opportunity in the Family the Best Civil Rights Memoir of 2003. At a gathering sponsored by the Organization of Women Writers of Africa and the Institute of African-American Affairs and African Studies Program of New York University, Due received the New Voice in Literature Award in 2004.
