Takeshi Kaneshiro is the son of a Japanese expert and a Taiwanese housewife. He has two older brothers, one of which is seven years his senior and the other only one. He enrolled at the English-based Taipei American School after leaving Taipei Japanese Junior High School, which enabled him to converse in English. While he was focused there, he began starring in TV commercials and decided to drop out of school to pursue a career in singing and acting. To varying degrees, he is bilingual and conversant in Mandarin, Hokkien, Japanese, English, and Cantonese. Kaneshiro made his singing debut in 1992, joining the industry under the stage name Aniki, which in Japanese means "more experienced sibling." Heartbreaking Night was his collection for his presentation. He was hired by EMI and created a sizable number of his own Mandarin and Cantonese tunes. His celebrity drove him into acting the following year, and he stopped producing business music. Executioners, his feature film debut, was followed by Chungking Express, directed by Wong Kar-wai, and several other Hong Kong productions. Later, Kaneshiro appeared in the underwhelming Japanese TV series God Please Give Me More Time, which allowed him to diversify into Japanese films like Returner.
