British pop musician Taio Cruz's second album, Rokstarr, launched him to worldwide chart-beating success in 2010 thanks to the smash hits Break Your Heart and Dynamite. Jacob Taio Cruz was born in London, England, on April 23, 1983, to a Nigerian father and a Brazilian mother. He attended school in Rugby, Warwickshire, and the West Midlands. His songwriting career has been moving very quickly since he signed a distribution deal at 19 and was given credit for co-writing Pop Idol winner Will Young's 2004 Top Five smash track, "Your Game," which won the 2005 Brit Award for Best British Single. After this accomplishment, Cruz released the Top 30 single I want to Know in 2006, which marked his debut as an independent artist. The song earned him a sizeable mark recording deal with Island Records when it was initially released under his name Ro, start Music London (later renamed Rokstarr Entertainment Division). After a few more songs, Moving On and Come on Girl, the latter of which reached the Top Five, Cruz released his first full-length album, Departure (2008). I Can Be, and She's Like a Star, created by the musician/artist himself, were the other two singles from Departure that received favorable reviews.
